Brisbane Roar’s off-season squad transformation has officially begun, with the confirmed departure of Florin Berenguer, Keegan Jelacic, Louis Zabala and Adam Zimarino.
The four departing players are the first player movements at the club confirmed since Michael Valkanis took the reins from Ruben Zadkovich as the club’s new head coach.
Jelacic, 22, has concluded his loan spell from Belgian Pro League club K.A.A Gent. The Olyroos forward began his career at the Roar in 2020-21 but returned to the club for the 2023-24 campaign on loan from Gent after a one-season stint at Perth Glory. Jelacic’s loan was then extended for another season; he made 24 appearances for Brisbane in 2024-25, scoring two goals.

Experienced French midfielder Berenguer has left the club after two seasons in orange.
A three-time Premier and one-time Champion at Melbourne City before his arrival at the Roar in 2023, Berenguer made 41 Isuzu UTE A-League appearances for Brisbane across his two-season stint.
Queensland product Louis Zabala has also called time on his tenure at the Roar after four seasons. Zabala signed his first professional contract with the club in 2022 and went on to play 62 times for Brisbane in the Isuzu UTE A-League.

Zimarino, meanwhile, departs after one season at Brisbane. The 23-year-old played 18 games under Zadkovich in 2024-25 and scored one goal in the Roar’s 4-3 win over Sydney FC in January.
The club confirmed talks are ongoing with several other out-of-contract players, with further announcements imminent as new head coach Valkanis continues to shape his 2025-26 squad.
